Interruption to U.S. Consulate General Shanghai’s Consular Services

Due to a construction incident that severed our internet connection, the consular section of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai is experiencing interruption to a range of consular services.  We are working with all relevant parties and authorities to urgently restore connectivity and services.  At this time, we have no estimate for completion.  We place high priority on the consular services we provide and are working intensively with the responsible parties to solve this problem.

We will not be scheduling new visa interview appointments until this issue is resolved.  For those who have visa appointments scheduled, we may not be able to conduct an interview due to the inability to retrieve applicant information.  We are contacting those affected on an ongoing basis.  For those who have an interview, please be advised it may take up to four weeks to return your passport.  We recommend that applicants with urgent travel needs apply for an interview at another embassy or consulate location in China.
